The speaker of this week is Jesse Pazdera. Jesse is a 3rd year PhD student in Laurel Trainor’s lab. As an undergraduate, he studied computer science at Haverford College with the dream of becoming a video game developer. Instead, he discovered a love for psychology research, double-majored in psychology and computer science, and completed a thesis in which he simulated the process by which children become enculturated to the syntactic structure of their native musical system. Following graduation, he worked for a few years as a software developer for the Computational Memory Lab at the University of Pennsylvania, where he developed automated pipelines for EEG and behavioral data processing. While there, he also published computational research on modality effects in episodic memory. His current PhD research focuses on interactions between pitch and time in auditory perception. His hobbies include writing song lyrics, videogaming, and collecting fountain pens.
