Graduate students

I accept applications from prospective PhD students and can offer generous financial support and superb infrastructure for research in the laboratory and field.

Students may get involved in one of my research projects (see links above) or develop their own study, which should integrate cognition and behaviour with evolutionary biology.

I prefer to work with insects and have studied various species of solitary and social bees, flies, wasps and grasshoppers. I have also worked with blue jays and pigeons and am interested in field and laboratory research involving birds.

Prospective students with the appropriate background are invited to read about my research projects and publications, check out the web sites of the Animal Behaviour Group and Department and e-mail me an outline of their academic background (current degree and topic, average grades, and research experience), general interests, and perhaps specific ideas about potential PhD projects. I will open only pdf attachments. Note that you must communicate with me directly via e-mail if you wish to join my lab.

I accept applications from prospective undergraduate students wishing to participate in my laboratory and field research.  Students wishing to conduct independent projects (PNB 4D09, 4D06 and #QQ3) are especially encouraged to apply. A minimum requirement for work in my lab is a mark ≥ A- in Animal Behaviour (PNB 2XC3).  I would also prefer students with similar marks in statistics and PNB 3S03).

Prospective students with the appropriate background are invited to read about our research projects and publications, and e-mail me a short letter outlining their academic background (current year, major, relevant course experience, average grades, and research experience, and an informal, complete MUGSI transcript), and their availability for research during the school year and in the summer. Do not send attachments other than .pdf files).
